Why we exist and the challenges we address

Every day, cats on Navy and military installations face abandonment, illness, and inhumane control practices. Operation FurLove brings compassion, structure, and humane management to protect these animals — and support the sailors who share their space.

Abandoned Cats
Abandoned pets on military installations often become free-roaming colony cats, facing starvation, untreated illness, and increased danger without human support.
1
Cruel Control Methods
Some colonies have been reduced through harsh removal practices, exposing cats to unnecessary harm instead of relying on humane, proven management solutions.

Compassion

Our Solution

A Humane System That Works: TNRx2

Operation FurLove uses a dual-path framework designed specifically for military environments. Through TNRx2 — Trap, Neuter, Release, and Remove — we humanely stabilize colonies, protect animal welfare, and support the needs of base communities.

Trap
Cats are carefully and humanely trapped by trained volunteers, ensuring their safety while beginning the process of responsible, structured colony management.
Neuter
Cats are sterilized, vaccinated, and evaluated by veterinary professionals, improving colony health and preventing future litters as part of humane, structured population management.
Release
Healthy colony cats are returned to familiar territory, where they deter rodents, reduce chaos, and help maintain a calm, predictable environment through established social structures.
Remove
Kittens and socialized cats are transitioned into foster programs or adopted into permanent homes, giving them safe environments where they can grow, adapt, and thrive.

We used to have over 100 cats in our work area and since a Trap Neuter Spay Return/Remove (TNR2) program was implemented, the colony has stabilized to no more than 25 cats for over three years now AND we do no longer have rats!
